MPB Flying
It looks like Dave Leatherman was correct about the MPBs flying earlier this year. For the past two days now I have noticed new MPB hits (and live beetles boring into trees) in stands of timber where MPB infested trees from last year have not yet been removed.
Location: Northern Larimer County; Wyo-Colo state line East of Virginia Dale; elevation 7,000 ft.

San Juan Tree Farmers Host All Local Forest Landowners
San Juan Tree Farmers hosted a meeting for all forest landowners within the Durango district of the Colorado State Forest Service on July 18. Attendees received a free copy of the Colorado Tree Farmer forest management manual, discussed forest health problems, asked questions and shared information, suggestions and solutions. Topics for future meetings, tours and workshops were suggested. A second meeting will take place on August 22 to honor Florence Kroulik as the 2009 Colorado Tree Farmer of the Year.
The July 18 meeting was hosted by the Western Regional Tree Farmers of the year, Ken and Lois Carpenter who gave a tour of their property and explained how the Missionary Ridge wildfire in 2002 impacted their Tree Farm and how they reacted.
